November 29 to December 1, the Danish Villages of Elk Horn and Kimballton, Iowa, celebrated Julefest. Julefest is a celebration of the preparation for Christmas. Several businesses, tourist stops, and churches had special exhibits, crafts sales, and free samples of Danish treats.
Jonathan and I went for a few hours and stopped at the Danish Windmill and looked around their shop and tried pebernodder and glogg (similar to mulled wine).
At The Danish Immigrant Museum, we were able to get in for free because of Julefest, so we looked at their exhibits on Danish immigration to the U.S., as well as their current temporary exhibit--Danish Modern: Design for Living.

We also stopped at the Genealogy Center and they had crafts out for people to make. I made a woven paper heart ornament. We also had more pebernodder and glogg.
Our last stop was Immanuel Lutheran Church in Kimballton for a craft and bake sale.

It was a fun time. I enjoyed sampling other versions of pebernodder! I even picked up recipes, so I can try making them myself.
That windmill was brought to America by my husband's ancestors. He is Danish and German, I am Scottish-Irish. He has red hair, but I do not. Can you guess who I am?
