Visiting the Farm
Yesterday, Jonathan and I were invited out to a parishioner's farm to ride in the combine.
Here, the auger is moving corn up into the bins. They're running a dryer to lower the moisture levels of the grain.
The tractor brings the wagons of grain from the field to the bins and dumps it into the base of the auger. You can see the older tractor is being used to power the auger.
View from the cab of the combine. |
Looking down from the cab, you can see the corn head:
Which fits nicely between the rows of corn:
You can't see the detail in the photo above, but it looks like there is grass growing in between the rows of corn. It is not regular grass, but actually rye. It was seeded from the air and serves to prevent soil erosion.
The grain collects in the back of the combine.
And when it's full, it get's moved to a wagon. You can take the combine to the wagon, but you can also have someone else drive the wagon next to the combine and transfer the corn as you go.
It's a family business. Father in the combine, son in the tractor. |
If you look really close, you can see the church steeple a little ways to the left of the bins in the distance. That's where I live. |
very nice. I especially like that the pig is free to move about out doors.! hk
