Things that the rain revealed to me.
The rain gauge said it rained three inches last night. Today, the combines sit parked in the fields. It's too wet to combine. I went walking in the mud. Sprinkled on the surface, I found these soft soybeans, which must have blown there and soaked up the rain, just like we soak dry beans for cooking.
These roads I have walked many times, but I had never seen before the contrast in the layers of dirt. The mud revealed to me that there is a thick strain of gray clay in the road.
I squished it into chunks.
This stripe of gray is almost a foot thick. This road receives very little maintenance, and there are deep eroded channels, especially on the hills. Notice the rust colored specs?
They go all the way down. I they're cylinders:
The other clay around this one has eroded around it so you can see its shape. It appears to be clay as well. I don't know what causes it.
