Sunday afternoon, Jonathan and I went to Ames to see some visiting family. We stayed with my parents. The next morning, they took us and the dogs to see some of the parks in the area. My parents recently retired to Ames, where my dad grew up, so he's been enjoying telling us all about the places he used to go as a kid.
Soper's Mill Access Area is an access point along the Skunk River Water Trail and is just a few minutes outside of Ames. It is the former location of Soper's Mill, which was originally a sawmill and later converted to a gristmill.
There were several other people along the river here, fishing from the banks. We walked a little and then headed back. On the walk back to the truck, we saw a bald eagle!
