Pilot. Farmer. Businessman.
Last Friday afternoon, we finished camping at Prairie Rose State Park and said goodbye to my sister Sarah. She headed home to Washington state, and we went home to our place to unpack. As we were unloading stuff in the kitchen, we checked our answering machine. There was a message from a parishioner, Kenneth, who is a pilot asking if Jonathan wanted to go flying the day before while we were gone. Jonathan called him back and he said, how would you like to go today? So just hours after getting home, we were on a plane, flying over our area!
We flew over Harlan, Walnut, Avoca, Shelby, and Hancock. We also flew over Prairie Rose State Park (picture posted yesterday). It was so exciting to have been there in the morning and then see it a completely different way in the afternoon!
I took a lot of photos, but I'm just posting a few here.

Above is Nisha Bend County Park, south of Harlan. It is the park where we saw the owls released and went on a night hike. Read the post.
You see here the corn maze at Carstens 1880 Farmstead! Kenneth told us that the person who made the maze did it freestyle. In the past, he's programmed the design into the combine computer. I think it turned out pretty well! (It's a tractor.) Read the post about Carstens.
It may be difficult to make out, but the large building near the center of the above photo is the Shelby United Methodist Church building, one of the churches Jonathan serves.
And that is our home! In the center of the square is Silver Creek United Methodist Church (originally Emanuel Evangelical Church, then Silver Creek Evangelical United Bretheren, and finaully UMC after denominations merged). The house is to its right, and the white barn to the back.
Silver Valley Cemetery. Seen in this post.
If you know where to look, you can see our laundry line with our tent and sleeping bags airing out after our camping trip.
Another look, with the shadow of the plane on the ground.
The big white building under the wing is Hancock United Methodist Church, the third church Jonathan serves.
Wind power!
Jonathan and Kenneth, pilot, farmer, and businessman. A kind soul sharing with us a wonderful treat.
