Clay County Fair: Bushels of Fun: Agriculture Exhibit!
The Agriculture Exhibit at the Clay County Fair, housed in one of the oldest remaining buildings on the fairgrounds, was once a much larger display. Now most of the exhibits are in the center of the room. Most of the outer booths that line the room now are bare or display antique wagons and sleighs, but they once were filled with township displays. In the '20s, the Farm Bureau was being established in Clay County and they were promoting township clubs. These were areas of so many square miles and each, consisting of men and women, would fill the booths with displays, including a decorative element, all made of things they grew. Later, they stopped doing that and started decorating holiday doors with themes for different seasons. Now it is as you see it, but if you like growing things, it is still exciting!
(This information was told to me by my mom, a former employee of the Parker Historical Museum, Clay County Heritage Center, and Clay County Fair Museum!)
Ten perfect ears--prizewinners!
My mom and the tallest corn stalk. A new record: 17 feet and 6 inches.
I wonderful selection of beautiful vegetables, including some interestingly shaped gourds.
A particularly beautiful cabbage. It's a shame it's probably going to be wilted and spoiled after a week sitting in the heat.
A rather large first place sunflower head.
Soy bean plants, their pods displayed in fish bowls below.
To remind you that fall is around the corner, some fantastic pumpkins!:
