"Provision" Print

I am in the midst of planning for my church women's organization's late summer women's retreat. It will be held at a favorite location, Land Alliance Folk School, and our speaker will be the folk school's proprietor, Anna Geyer. I'd asked her if she'd speak about Isaiah for us, and she told me she would if I made some art to go with it. Of course, I agreed. Our official publicity has not been created, but the title that Anna and I have discussed is "Curds & Honey: God's Provision and the Tension of Trust."

I have a handful of images in the works that will be displayed at the retreat, but I also wanted to make at least one a block print so that I could, hopefully, sell a few copies to help cover our group's expenses, including covering registration fees for those who need assistance.

It's been a little while since I've done anything with a block, but it was fun to get back into it. I'd consider myself an intermediate at this practice. Always more to learn.

The chapters of Isaiah we read are 6-9 and 32-35. A theme we are focusing on is the provision for God's people, even in a time of destruction. When the agricultural fields are overtaken by briars, bees, cows, and sheep live there, and the people have curds and honey to eat. I imagined blackberry brambles, where thorny branches offer the sweetest fruit for those willing to seek them.

They are printed on Thai Kozo (mulberry) paper with Speedball water based ink. The image is 8"x10" and the paper size varies.

If you're interested in purchasing a print, they're available for $25, with $15 going towards the retreat funds. (Plus shipping, or free local pickup.) Send me an email at stephanie.heifner@gmail.com.

Detailed retreat information is coming soon. It will be Saturday, August 27th, 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Land Alliance, south of Oxford, Iowa. Registration will be through St. Paul's United Methodist Church and United Women in Faith circles. You can also let me know if you wish to be notified when registration is open!
